Op de site van Tombow (Japanse fabrikant van markers, viltstiften, potloden enzo meer) is een cursusplek: My Creative Classroom. Ik heb me aangemeld voor de Tangle in Color-internet-cursus van Marie Browning (o.a. mede-schrijfster van Joy of Zentangle). De betaalde cursus bestaat uit 4 lessen, die op donderdag op internet worden gezet. In de cursus oefenen we met Tombow-markers (ik gebruik mijn Letraset Aquamarkers met blender hiervoor) en Irojiten kleurpotloden (ik gebruik hiervoor in de plaats de welbekende Bruynzeel (-Sakura) kleurpotloden.
On the Tombow-site (Japanese industry of markers, feltpens, color pencils andso on) is a spot for lessons: My Creative Classroom. I subscribed for the Tangle in Color course of Marie Browning (also co-writer of Joy of Zentangle). The payed lesson series exsist of 4 lessons, which are uploaded on thursdays. In these lessons we practise with Tombow-markers (I use my Letraset Aquamarkers) and Irojiten colorpencils (I use instead of these the in the Netherlands wellknown Bruynzeel (-Sakura) colorpencils.
Er wordt gewerkt vanuit de kleurencirkel met de primaire kleuren rood, geel en blauw en de bekende mengkleuren die in de cirkel ertussen liggen. Om voor mezelf dit ook te maken heb ik met potlood en aquamarkers in een cirkel de kleuren gemengd: secundaire als oranje, groen en paars en de tertiaire kleuren daar weer tussen. Met potlood ook met de aquamarker-blender, met wit, HB-potlood en zwart kleurpotlood 'gemengd'. The series started with information about the color-wheel with the primary colors red, yellow and blue and the mixed colors in between them.
In les 1 was opdracht 1 om eenvoudige vormen zoals cirkels met tangles te vullen en ze daarna via directe en indirecte blending te kleuren met de aquamarkers. In lesson 1 the assignment was to fill simple shapes with tangles. After that we had to color it with via direct and indirect blending with the aquamarkers.
Directe blending (= menging of vervaging) is met twee verschillende kleuren aquamarkers op papier over elkaar heen te kleuren. Indirecte blending is de kleur eerst op een palet - dit is een glad stuk kunststof (deksel van een boterbakje of zoiets zolang het maar wit is) - 'tekenen'. Met de blender van de aquamarker neem je de kleur van het palet op en teken je de kleur op papier. Deze kleur zal dan opraken en dus vervagen op papier. Zie hiervoor het plaatje hiernaast. Direct blending is coloring one color on top of the other on paper. Indirect blending is putting the color on a so called palette - a smooth piece of plastic ( f.i. the cover / lid of a butter tub - thanks Kelley aka K2 for this word- as long the basic color is white). With the aquamarker blender you take the color off the palette and color on paper. The color will fade as it runs out of color. See picture above.
Het mengen moest ook met potlood. Opdracht 2 was de verschillende kleuren combinaties te gebruiken: primaire kleuren, secundaire kleuren, tertiaire kleuren of combinaties die naast elkaar liggen op de kleurencirkel of op een bepaalde manier tegenoverelkaar: 'single split' = liggen in een Y-vorm (dus 3 kleuren) of 'double split' = liggen in een X-vorm (4 kleuren) (niet kruislings) tegenover elkaar. Als iemand hier de Nederlandse termen van kan vertellen, ben ik nog blijer ;)
Blending also had to be done with the pencils. Assignment 2 was to use different color combinations: primary, secundary and tertiairy colors or combinations of colors next to eachother on the colorwheel or on a special way on the other side of the colorwheel: 'single split'= colors are chosen using the Y-shape or 'double split'= colors are chosen in an X-shape (so 4 colors - not direct crossing the wheel). I don't know the Dutch words for these so if someone can tell me, I'd be even more happy ;-).
Ik heb een tekst van de stempels van de stempelbeurs ARTSpecially 2013 gebruikt: "Do more of what makes you happy !" Ik heb de tangles Wring-Pegs, Pegs-Strechting-3's, Ahh, Atorm, Joy en Gothic gebruikt. Omdat ik niet kon stoppen met tekenen, maakte ik meteen een serie van 3 tegels met de tekst en tangles. Onderaan de 'double split' met paars, blauw, oranje en geel. In het midden 'single split' met paars, groen en geel en bovenaan de naastliggende kleuren groen, geel en oranje. Eigenlijk vind ik de bovenste tegel het mooist. De 'double split' vind ik iets te bont ;) . I used the text of the stamps of the ART Specially Event 2013: "Do more of what makes you happy!" I used tangles Wring-Pegs, Pegs-Strechting-3's, Ahh, Atorm, Joy and Gothic. Because I couldn't stop drawing I made a series of 3 tiles with text and tangles. Tile underneath is the 'double split' with purple, blue, orange and yellow. In the middle 'single split' with purple, green and yellow. The top one is with adjacent colors, these are colors which are next to eachother on the colorwheel.

In lesson 2 (of last thursday) the assignments were:
- een (monotangle) tegel te maken met indirecte blending met 2 kleuren, making a (monotangle) tile with a 2 colored indirect blending,
- een andere tegel/tekening waarbij het mengen van potlood geoefend werd met 2 tinten van dezelfde kleur én het gebruik van een aquamarker-blender, making another tile/drawing with pencil color blending with 2 hues of the same color ánd using the aquamarker blender to deepen the colors,
- mengen / kleuren met kleurpotlood volgens een bepaalde 'krabbel'-, (scrumble-) methode, using the scruble-method for blending and coloring with pencil.
- én een landschap volledig getangled en ingekleurd volgens de indirecte inkleur-methode met aquamarkers, ánd a landscape fully tangled and colored using the indirect colormethod with aquamarkers.
1. De tegel heb ik gemaakt met de monotangle opdracht nr 7 van Roy Stauffer. Indirecte blending (menging) met 2 kleuren zie je rechtsboven. Ik nam echter wat te veel 'inkt' op van het palet, dus het werd wat lastiger om het naar wit te laten vervagen. Vandaar dat ik naast de 'tegel' wat verder heb getekend. The tile I made for Roy Stauffers monotangle challenge I used for this assignment. The indirect blending I used 2 colors is to been seen on the top right. I used a bit too much 'ink' off the palette, so fading was a bit harder to do to get to the white. That's why I also colored next to the tiles on the aquarel paper.
2. Linksonder Onomato supersized. Eerst het geheel in laagjes met kleurpotlood opgebouwd met roden, blauwen en bruinen. Daarna met de blender van de aquamarker het rood indirect van het palet opgenomen en de rode bollen verder ingekleurd. Dit geeft echt een diepe kleuring. Het rood op de blender was wel iets te veel, dus de potlood-basis-kleuring is nu niet echt meer te zien. Het vervaag-effect met de blender is nu wél leuk te zien. Left under I supersized Onomato. First I colored in layers with colorpencils reds, blues and browns. Then I took (bright) red indirectly from the palette and colored the red spheres. This really deepens it. The red was a bit too mucht, so the color pencil base is not to be seen anymore. The fading-effect of the blender is though, so much fun!
3. De 'scrumble'-kleurmethode is heel leuk om te doen. Je tekent mini-spiralen zonder het scherpe potlood van het papier af te halen. Terwijl je dit doet, moet je ook je potlood rustig draaien, zodat het potlood scherp blijft.
Ik heb voor deze opdracht geen tangles gebruikt maar als basis één van de vele sjablonen die we rijk zijn gebruikt. Ik voel me een heel erg groot kind onder de kinderen ;-) en genieten dat ik ervan doe :-D. The 'scrumble' color method is very fun to do. You draw mini-spirals without taking the sharp color pencil off of the page. While you are doing this, you will have to turn the pencil, so the point stays sharp. I didn't use tangles for this assignment, but used a template of which we have a lot of. I felt like I was one very big child among our kids ;-) and enjoying every minute of it :-D.
Ik heb het meisjes-sjabloon gekozen met een hondje van de jongens-sjabloon. Ik tekende dit met de Sakura fineliner Pigma Micron 01 in mijn A6-dummy. Daarna inkleuren met de Bruynzeel-potloden. Laagje voor laagje met dezelfde kleur of met verschillende kleuren. Het haar is bruin + geel + rood + bruin, trui is oranje met rood aan de schaduw-randen, strikken oranje + rood, hondje is bruin + zwart enzovoorts. I used a girl-template with a dog of the boy-template. I drew this with the Sakura Pigma Micron 01 fineliner in my A6 dummy. Then coloring it with the Bruynzeel colorpencils. Layer after layer with the same color or with different colors. The hair is brown + yellow + red + brown, the sweater is orange with red shades at the edges, the dog is brown + black and so on.
Op de eerste foto is de inkleuring vrij vlak. Op de tweede foto heb ik de kleur verdiept door harder te drukken op mijn potlood. On the first picture the coloring is quite flat. In the second picture I deepened the color by pressing harder on the color pencils.
4. Landschap tanglelen en kleuren op de indirect meng-methode met aquamarkers. Hieronder zie je de resultaten zonder kleuren én met indirecte kleurmenging. Drawing a landscape filled with tangles and coloring it indirectly with aquamarkers. Underneath are my results without ánd with coloring.
Je hebt ondertussen vast wel begrepen dat ik deze cursus heel erg leuk vind. Nu ik vakantie heb, kan ik tussendoor meer tekenen dan normaal. Ik leef me helemaal uit! You probably understood that I love to take this class. Now I am on holidays I can draw more than normally. I am fully enjoying every minute!
